She Blinded Me With Science

We took Rosie to the Think Tank in Birmingham, which is the. It was great (ok so secretly I might have enjoyed it more that she did) well worth the entry fee. We got to see science in the past, present and future including an exhibition called Aliens. Plus we got entrance to Sharks 3D showing at the iMax. The only thing we couldn’t get to see was the planetarium show, which started at the same time the free show finished and we didn’t make it up there in time :( but no matter there’s always another day, as always photos are here

Racheal and Simon’s Wedding

We have just returned back from a lovely weekend at Gorse Lodge near Newark for our friends Rachel and Simon’s wedding. It is an excellent day. The service was held in a hunting lodge, ignoring the fact that it was a hunting a lodge the location was beautiful, top food, top drinks and of course top company. The pair of them are off to Greece now I think (I’m pretty sure thats right, I was told but I was very tired and possibly was not paying as much attention as I could have). We wish them much love in their married life and a good time was had by all but slightly disappointed by the lack of jelly wrestling. As always photos are here.

What A Downer

Well I have just finished my training with CEC, he is such a downer as I was listening to him speak about how the fun has gone out of computing and how managers are short sighted (which I do partially agree with him on) I did start to feel really sorry for him leaving the company.

While he was talking though I started to think about while he feels like this and he has trouble communicating to anyone who isn’t a geek. I was remembering what Nick said to me a few months ago, he said I was the bridge between the geek and suit world. I can quite comfortably sit with managers and discuss ideas and yet equally feel at home with geek as well. I can understand why managers feel comfortable paying over the odds for Microsoft while Linux is free and can do the job better. I am a geek with business sense and that’s why I feel the strive to use RAD techniques, buzz words and the latest technologies when writing software because that’s what’s gonna get the sale.

But CEC he never felt that way and doesn’t even want to try and although I do feel sad for him and wish him the best, he is still an annoying person who’s constantly late and behind on work, frustratingly uncommunicative and a really slow eater!
