Top Firefox 2.0 Tweaks

Borat

As I was on the train this morning to Cadburys I was watching an advert for the Borat film.  To see the advert I had to look behind a woman to watch it (she was doing the same as me). No I didn’t know this woman at all and she seemed to have a very serious face on her, but as the advert progress I could see a cheeky little smile crawl across her face which she tried to hide but because I was doing the same she couldn’t as we crossed paths to leave the train she said to me, “It looks funny doesn’t it”. “Yes”, I replied.  A moment in time that would not have happened if Borat who was snogging some woman (which turned out to be his sister) didn’t say “She is the 4th best prostitute in Kazakhstan”

Mondonation: I believe in…

I came across this video from one of the youtube RSS feeds, i think its quite a powerful video and feels me with good feelings about the human race in general.  The idea for this came from the mondonation website.

Firefox 2

If you didn’t know its out already, so click here to download, you will notice though that alot of your extensions won’t work so till then they have updated them read the post here and do step two which resolves it.  You then just have to check daily to see if there are any updates.

Podcasts, PDA’s and Batter Mixture

So as some of the more astute of you may have noticed I have updated the basic Kubric theme for wordpress, I am now using the far superior K2. K2 has lots of nice touches most of which I plan to mess around with by editing the style sheet, however one of the best things is that I can upload images for the header at the top of the page and have it set randomly so they change each time the page is loaded.  If you have some images that you think deserve to be in the header please email them across and I’ll up load them.

On to my main point/s, I love podcasts I think they are brilliant.  I’ve been raving on about them for ages, in fact I have bored Katie’s theatre friends to death about them (so much so that one of Katie’s friend called Ben now refers to me only as Podcast!) and they all laughed at the idea and said it was silly.  But about 9 months ago they changed their mind when the realised it had all gone mainstream and had to conceed I was right. I used to love using iTunes to download them, it fitted in so nicely with the ipod and I had one app to rule them all.  Or I did.  Since Apple updated iTunes to version 7, I have hated it.  Its slow and has had serious playback bugs (which have been fixed in version 7.0.1) but they changed the interface for podcasts.  I have to go to a separate window to see whats happening or cancel a download and it has bothered me so much that I have decided to go back to using a separate program to download podcasts, a program called Juice (originally called iPodder or iPodder Lemon). I previously used Juice before iTunes introduced podcast functionality, it had a clean and simple interface and it worked well.  The only thing I have given up by reverting back to Juice is that now my podcasts don’t have the ability to add audio bookmarks.  I think that I will continue to look though to see if there’s a better solution out there but for the moment I’m all juiced up.

I found my old iPaq the other day and have decided to turn it into a ebook reader (as I have a few ebooks) but thought it was a bit of a waste and was wondering what else I could use it for when Lifehacker posted this brilliant article.

As I am sure that you are all desperate to know what else I have been up to, I thought I would tell you I have been trying to perfect my batter mix to make top notch Yorkshire pudding’s and toad in the hole.  So far this is my second batch and I have defiantly worked out the kinks but remember you also need smoking oil in the baking tray before you put it in the oven as well, otherwise it won’t rise right.

Look out for Roger

I do promise to actually do some posting as some point.

Here’s his blog, I never knew he was such an avid blogger.

Its All About The Pentiums / The Saga Begins

Before coming across “White and Nerdy” by Weird Al, these two songs are my favorites of his.

Zane Lowe

How stange. I was walking to the gym via Victoria Sqaure.  There was some band playing and I stopped to have a listen and watch while they were being filmed against the big foutain.  There was probably some where around 10 people in all watching, and this one guy was rocking out slightly to them.  He turned to me and asked what did I think.  “Pretty Good”, I replied it was until I saw him talking to someone else that I realised it was Zane “In New Music We Trust” Lowe.

AD

I have just come back from a crunch session with the IT crowd at work.  We are in the process of migrating everyone over from NT4 domains to Active Directory.  What a pain everyone is going mental moaning about how long it will take there laptop or PC to be migrated and there was no sort of system setup for the migration.  Luckily I more organised these days and managed to setup a system to monitor the laptops as they come.  The room I was working in though was very very warm.  About 12 computers, and 6 guys all working together next time I think that I will wear shorts ;) .  Hopefully the guys will get everything done in time however they have 120 machines to do in 2 weeks and it can take anywhere from 45mins to an hour and a half to upgrade a PC.  I have a feeling I my be called back next week!

I did get to spent sometime with Jon and Amelia as I was staying over in their new pad while working in Epsom.  Its very nice on three floors , white and very modern looking.  They are currently waiting for BT to fix their line as when I was round there broadband was up and running however (and this is very unfortunate) they next day there telephone line went down and it won’t be fixed till this Saturday.  Jon was gutted to say the least only managing about 2 hours of 8mb speed before losing it for a couple of days.  I was very envious until I found out that at some point Demon will be upgrading my line free of charge, I have my fingers crossed because I needs them speeds!

Alton Towers

We have just returned from our annual trip to alton towers for Robin’s birthday.  Robin (pictured above) has just turned 30 and as usual celebrates around his birthday with a trip to alton towers.  The beauty of going at this time of the year is that the queues are very small and we managed to get on all the big rides.  For photo’s click on the flickr link here.

DOA

So Bob and I went to see DOA (Dead or Alive) which is a film based on the computer game.  It in a some very attractive women, who kick arse wearing very short shorts and bikini tops and….. sorry got a bit carried away there.  Each character of the game is in there and you get to see some more of the interesting fights, like the one where Holly Valance’s character is having a fight and its raining and she’s wet and so is her opponent….. I’m sorry its no good the film it basically about hottie’s kicking arse I am ashamed to say that based on that I loved it.

I would also like to say that I asked for a large coke and actually what I got was a reservoir of coke.  I had to take this photo to show the size of it, although it looks like a half pint glass it is in fact a pint glass!!

Star Award

As I was checking my gmail this morning eBay sent me a little certificate to say that I am a serious eBay person as I have had 10 positive bits of feedback on my 10 transactions, which means “I’m a serious member of the community”, which is nice.

White and Nerdy

Now that normal service has been resumed, today we harvested our potatoe pot thing and as you can see from the pictures has a bit of a bumper crop.  We are having them tonight with Chicken and Peppers

Thats It

Ok so I have managed to restore everything I could as best I can, I have backed up everything and I must add this little warning from Bob, so I may never forget to do it again.

2. Verify your backups
3. See 1 & 2

MableThorpe

We have just come back from a weekend long break in Mablethorpe. There were supposed to be seven of us in attendance, however due to work commitments only fours of us actually made it to the campsite. Being as Sun holiday there was chav a plenty around the campsite buy we all had a good laugh and enjoyed ourselves.  We made it to the beach, saw seals(the seeing kind not actually sawing them in half), had a BBQ, drank and oh yeah all got temporary tattoos, nice.  As always the photos can be found here.

GTD Tools

Host your TiddlyWiki at Tiddlyspot - Lifehacker: Ok this was a link that I found whilst browsing lifehacker. I’m always trying to find the best tool for GTD implamentation. At work I was using a program called TRACKS however now that I can use tiddlyWiki to work on a usb thumbstick is brilliant, it means I can take my hipster PDA with me to a customer and a thumbstick and make changes to things offline and upload them later, brilliant
